Unique Minerals Celebrated June 20 2014 - Catherine Angiel, 0 Comments

All that glitters isn't always gold & who cares

Recently jewelry artist Catherine Angiel has been inspired by pyrite, an earth mineral that most people know as 'Fool's Gold'. Pyrite has been used to make jewelry for centuries, reaching the height of its popularity during the Victorian era. A mineral that evokes images of fire and warmth, pyrite literally comes from the Greek word for fire, Catherine found that it fit right in with her modern-vintage aesthetic. Aside from being known as 'Fool's Gold', pyrite has been called 'healer's gold' and is used as a gemstone for protection and promoting a happy state of mind.

Pyrite is perfect for those who are looking for something different to add to their jewelry box, while maintaining an overall glamorous feeling.

Celebrating Gay Pride in NYC | Harvey Milk Day! May 28 2014 - Catherine Angiel, 0 Comments

Harvey Milk Day

Today is a very special day in the LGBT community. Not only is is Harvey Milk Day/what would've been his 84th birthday, but today the White House Office of Public Engagement, the United States Postal Service and Harvey Milk Foundation, will host a first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony for the Harvey Milk Forever Stamp at the White House.

Harvey Milk was a true visionary for the LGBT community when he became the fist openly gay man to hold a major political position on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. All of his tremendous achievements gave hope to a community who at the time were encountered by such widespread discrimination and hostility. Harvey Milk believed that government should represent all citizens, ensuring equality and providing needed services.

Unfortunately on November 27, 1978, less than a year after he took office, Harvey Milk, along with Mayor George Moscone, was assassinated by supervisor Daniel White.

Harvey Milk has become an icon and a martyr for gay rights. His bravery and determination is the motivation for the modern day gay rights movement.

The Who May 02 2014 - Catherine Angiel, 0 Comments

This year marks the 50th anniversary of one of the most legendary bands The Who. So what better way to celebrate than by sharing with all of you one of the most amazing moments of my life!

When I was 14 years old, my mom took my brother and I on vacation to the Fountainbleau Hotel in Miami.

I was sitting in the lobby, bored out of my mind, when a beautiful, poised woman sat next to me and started talking to me. Turns out it was Swedish supermodel Annette Walter-Lax! Then a man walked up to her and told her he would meet her at the hotel restaurant, then walked away.

I looked up and my jaw hit the floor. I then turned to Annette,

Me: "Do you know who that was?!"

Annette: "My boyfriend."

Me: "Oh my God!! You're boyfriend is Keith Moon?! He's my IDOL!!!"

Annette: "Would you like to meet him?"

I thought I was going to die.

Me: "YES!!"

She then arranged a time for us to meet the following afternoon. I couldn't believe it!

The next day, I could not get ready fast enough! I put on my favorite Who t-shirt, my favorite white overalls and headed right to the hotel lobby.

At 4:00, the elevator doors opened, and there he stood, my idol. He had on a killer white suit and a walking stick. So boss. He then walked over to me, bowed, and kissed my hand!!!

Keith Moon: "Catherine, I'm Keith and it's a pleasure to meet you."

I had no words.

Keith Moon: "Would you like to go to the bah?"

Me: "What's a bah?"

He then pointed to the Poodle Lounge. Oh, he was saying BAR. Duh, Catherine!

So off we went to sit and chat about music and so, so much more. It was surreal. Just as I thought the moment couldn't get any better, Keith asks,

Keith Moon: "Would you like to meet Roger Daltrey?"

I could only nod my head yes.

Keith called his room and then 10 minutes later, Roger freakin' Daltrey walks in and gives me a big hug! So COOL!

The three of us talked for a while but I could barely understand a word they were saying! Being a girl from Queens, I had never heard a British accent before! However, they were so kind, generous and made me feel so special!

I'll never forget meeting my idol in such an amazing way. It was then I realized dreams really do come true. vacation EVER!

Edgy Engagement Rings April 17 2014 - Catherine Angiel, 0 Comments

For the bride who wants something edgy and different

Fancy grey diamond is the ideal choice!

While the word "grey" can carry negative connotation, especially when compared to a white, colorless diamond, the dramatic silver tones in fancy grey diamonds have a unique beauty all their own. These fancy grey diamonds have their own metallic sparkle and combine many different undertones of violets, greens, yellows and blues to create an extraordinary brilliance. Fancy grey diamonds can actually be more eye catching and beautiful than the classic white diamond.

It's the perfect diamond for the woman who wants to stand apart but still have the traditional symbolism of a diamond ring.

BCBG Max Azria  "Good Style, Good Attitude"

We've fallen in love already with the shows so far. Especially BCBG Max Azria's show.

Luxorius fur was the star of BCBG Maz Azria's 25th anniversary runway show. It was seen on fabulous statement coats and cozy sweatshirts. These pieces were paired with retro inspired caftans and dresses. Tying each look together were knee high boots, giving the whole collection an elegant 1970's vibe.

We think Catherine's Champagne Diamond Full Finger Ring would look amazing with this collection!

Tips on Caring for Your Jewelry January 25 2014 - Catherine Angiel, 0 Comments

Here are some great tips for caring for your jewelry!

-Always store your jewelry in a clean, dry place

-The best way to store your jewelry is in a fabric-lined jewelry case, or in a box that has different compartments and dividers. If you would rather use an ordinary box, no problem! Just wrap each piece individually in soft tissue paper.

-Do not jumble your jewelry together--you could scratch your gorgeous pieces

-Be very careful when taking your jewelry off when you wash your hands or the dishes. Don't leave your pieces on the rim of the sink--you don't want to lose your favorite ring or bracelet falling down the drain, never to be seen again!

-See your jeweler once a year to have your jewelry checked for any loose prongs, worn mountings or any general wear and tear.

-You should also visit your jeweler every six months to have your jewelry professionally cleaned to look brand new!

Follow these simple tips, and your jewelry will last a lifetime!

Red carpet glam!

Did you watch the SAG Awards last night? We couldn't get over the amazing fashion! Here are our top favorite looks:

Julie Bowen went for a more edgier look than we're used to seeing her in, in her Carolina Herrera gown. This gown was a wonderful mix of colors and patterns.

Lupita Nyong'o was a vision in turquoise last night in her Gucci gown. The intricate silk crepe flower straps made this whole look a showstopper!

Sandra Bullock looked absolutely stunning in a shimmery Lanvin gown. We loved the sexy hemline that showed off her amazing legs!

Sofia Vergara---va-va-va-VOOM! As usual, Sofia flaunted her showstopping curves in a silver sequined, form fitting Donna Karen Atelier gown.

Amy Adams looked drop dead gorgeous in her Antonio Bernardi gown. We loved the geometric cuts near her shoulder and the vibrant royal blue color looked amazing with her hair color and complexion!

Jennifer Lawrence looked elegant in a strapless sequenced Christian Dior gown. Even though Jennifer hilariously commented on her underarms in the dress, we thought she looked absolutely stunning!

We can't wait to see more amazing red carpet fashion this awards season!

History of Engagement Rings January 05 2014 - Catherine Angiel, 0 Comments

It's proposal season!

Did you know when engagement rings first originated? Neither did we until we stumbled upon an article from!

The first engagement ring dates back all the way to our prehistoric ancestors, the cavemen! Archaeologists believe that men would place braided cords around the woman's wrist, waist and feet. This tradition then ended when the ancient Egyptians began using rings in their marriage ceremonies.

The first true example of an actual wedding band, or engagement ring started in Egypt about 2800 BC. Archaeologists uncovered several mummies from that era that were buried with silver or gold rings on their left hands. Ancient Egyptians believed that the left ring finger was connected to the heart, which is a tradition that we still use today!

The first diamond engagement ring Archduke Maximilian of Austria gave to his love when he proposed to her in 1477. It was a unique ring that featured several pieces of flattened diamonds that spelled the letter "M" for her name, Mary.

The tradition of giving rings didn't become popular until the 1700's with "posey rings" in Europe. "Posey rings" were bands that were inscribed with lines of poetry and given to sweethearts as a token of their love and affection.

In the 21st century, engagement have evolved. Be it  a traditional white solitaire diamond setting to a more edgy black or grey diamond setting a ring is and always will be extraordinary way to say, "I love you".
